Class 3
Dosbarth Tri
Dosbarth 3 is made up of learners from Years 5 and 6. The classroom layout has a flexible seating arrangement with chairs, stools, beanbags and cushions used at tables of differing heights to give learners the choice to work in positions most comfortable to them. There are clearly defined areas of the classroom where learners can access supporting resources or develop enquiry.
Giving learners ownership of their learning is important in Dosbarth 3, with learners involved in the planning and the direction of the termly learning, which is based around our school’s big question, four purposes and six areas of learning. Lessons are often organised so that a focus group works with the teacher, which is rotated giving all learners the support or challenge needed throughout the week. Learners are encouraged to choose their level of challenge from Breidden, Snowdon and Everest differentiated activities accompanied with independent/collaborative tasks set by the teacher in addition to classroom missions linked to one or more of our areas of learning. All learners set themselves individual targets in collaboration with the teacher and work towards meeting these every morning when they come into school.
Building independence and developing responsibility is a focus of Dosbarth 3 with the aim to prepare learners for their transition to High School and entry into adolescence. Learners in this class lead the pupil voice groups within the school taking on the roles of Chair, Vice-Chair and Secretary and are also responsible for setting up and leading collective worship, running sporting activities at breaks through the Sports Ambassadors scheme, organising events and representing the school in a range of competitions. Every learner within the class has a laptop they regularly use to access Hwb and the Microsoft Office Suite, including Teams, as well as the internet to undertake research, play educational games and access resources.
